Transfer Policy:  Once class starts, a fire academy student, who is in good standing, may transfer to another class provided the following conditions are met: 1. the student has been in class 30 calendar days or less. 2. The class that the student wishes to enroll in starts within the following six months (unless next available class is delayed). 3. The student must sign the transfer form. 4. The student must pay a transfer fee equaling $4.49 per hour times the number of hours the student was in class.

Important Fingerprint Information: The student will be required to have their fingerprinting process completed before the first day of the fire class. Read and follow all instructions provided by the office staff when registering for fire class. Once class starts the instructor will provide the student information on how to pay for the  administrative fee to the State of Florida, Department of Financial Services.

Information regarding books (to be purchased separately by students) and bunker gear rental* (to be rented separately by students) will be provided when you sign up for the class.

*The Academy does not rent bunker gear. However, you may estimate your cost for rental to be $500 – $800. Costs vary by vendor.  Your bunker gear will consist of: pants, coat, suspenders, helmet, boots, gloves, no-mex hood.

You must read and understand what is required in order to turn in your application.

REQUIREMENTS AND UPDATED CURRICULUM INFORMATION: The curriculum and requirements for Minimum Standards have changed per the Bureau of Fire Standards. These changes include, but are not limited to, online training modules to be completed during the Fire program. As well, all applicants interested in Firefighter I & II/Minimum Standards classes will be required to provide First Responder, EMT or Medic certification prior to the completion of this course. You will not receive your State Fire certification until one of the above is submitted to the State. However, you may still enroll in the Fire program and take our First Responder course. The Academy offers a 40 hour First Responder program that will be available concurrently with the Fire class which will satisfy requirements for registering for Fire classes and allow you to receive your State Fire certification upon passing the course and State exam. (This information is listed under Classes, First Responder.) If you have completed an EMT program but are not yet State certified and wish to challenge the First Responder exam, you may register to take the exam upon submission of your EMT school certificate with your application. NEW FULL-TIME FIRE CLASS

(Class runs Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-5:30PM. The course takes approximately 11 weeks to complete.)
